Gustodian Presentation: 'What If Metropolis?' 11/12/2015

PG1 "Hi, I'm Thomas Mayfield and this is my project 'What If Metropolis' presentation. I have had seven weeks to complete this project and the final result came out very nice and you will see that later." PG2 "So my artist was a guy called Victor Moscoso, he is an artist who does a lot of psychedelic art for comics and music posters. You can see just by looking at these images that they can be a bit of a strain on the eyes, but you can see the Victor gives his work this really nice simplistic flow to his images. They just look correct, but then if you can look closer into his work all of the shapes have been made in a way so that they have second meaning to them, for example the easiest one to spot is the 'Peacock Ball' on the tail feathers of the peacock. The colors he also picks is also very distinct, the blue and orange on the Egyptian themed posted has a very violent clash with each other, but that is merely reinforced by the purple in-be...

Final Shot: Gustodian 'What if Metropolis' 10/12/2015

Gustodian Final Render This one shot took 3.5 hours to render and 1 hours to clean up, I can happily say this look amazing! The textures didn't show up as well as I would have hoped but this will do. I though this would look way too Sci-Fi in the end but I was mistaken. The window have a lovely effect to them and really add to this city. The was one minor issue with my scene though, the entire thing is textured, but from how I have set up my texture settings and lighting it has blocked out the textures quite significantly, you can see some of the textures better than others but that would be one of the only major flaws with my environment.

Maya: Texture Test 30/11/2015

I have tried to create a repeating concrete texture, it works super well and I can't wait to try this on a model! It can also loop which makes this texture even more handy, up close this texture will look really good but from a distance you will probably be able to spot a few areas that needs work.

Maya: City Experimentation 04/12/2015

Bump Map Texture Test Trying to get a texture that could have 'Pop' and still be recognised perfectly as an object is key in my city. I made a texture as well as the bump map so they were identical, the by altering setting I got some really good results. The texture really messes with your eyes but you can still tell its a cube, this process should be used in my final city.    Bridge Perspective Warp Test When I was doing some of the props I realised that the skybox/sphere I had made reflected my bridge, after some considerable tweaking I got this cool wavy effect to the model, I'm not sure how I will go about doing this but if possible I know some materials I will use can also reflect a little bit like the sky, so maybe I could form some other shape via reflections. Ball Texture Test  The texture test went really well! This little sphere ended up looking rocky in the end which is something I will use 100% for some of the pieces in my scene, I would lik...

Project 2: Building Thumbnails/Concepts

Thumbnails 103-109  These thumbnails were made using the models I created in Maya, using Victor Moscoso's artwork as a template to extrude from. Once the random models were made I started masking buildings in Photoshop. Thumbnail 2 (104) Finalized Thumbnail 3 (105) I tried to use the color red to give a sense of danger, having everything in this very scary tone of reds and blues to capture an almost threatening atmosphere really adds to this scene.

Project 2: Thumbnails 81-102 12/11/2015

Thumbnail 81 Thumbnail 82 Thumbnail 83 Thumbnail 84 Thumbnail 85 Thumbnail 86 These thumbnails were abstracts, meant to give an idea of scope and scale, also trying the give a sense of vibration to thumbnails 81 & 84 really worked well. Thumbnail 87  Thumbnail 88 This thumbnail was an idea of colour picking, seeing what colour went well with each other or fitted the style of victors work. You can see which thumbnail colour mixes I prefer over one another. Thumbnails 89-99 Thumbnails 89-99 were trying to get building shapes down, I used Victors images to generate some building structures, then mixed them with different colours. Personally I really like 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9. Thumbnail 100-101 Thumbnail 102

Gustodian Lamp Posts 12/11/2015

These are my lamp designs for my city, Victor did work for lots of music bands so I figured I should have some props related to music in the scene. Personally I really like this design as it does not look Modern nor Sci-Fi but this kind of Jolly, easily recognizable streetlamp. Really happy with how this came out.

Maya Tutorial: Street Final Piece 06/11/2015

Scene Buildup Gif Final Scene (Photoshopped)   Organized Hypershade If there is on thing I can definitely take away from this exercise, it is that I can now use that Hypershade! Took some getting used to but now I understand it a whole lot better. Modeled Street UV's Laid Out Lighting Materials Prepared Ambient Occlusion Final Scene Render Final Scene Render (Photoshopped) This is my final scene for the task I have been set. This was really fun and I might use these textures as a little practice for some modeling and rendering techniques. Overall the final piece came out really nice, the bump maps and lighting really pulled this scene together to give it a sense of realism and life. I am super happy with this and plan to do more scenes based off of this.

Gustodian, City of Dreams. 'What if Metropolis?' Travelog 02/11/2015

Gustodian (Gust-Oh-Dee-Ann) Gustodian , the city of dreams, it gets the name from the architecture that was built many years ago, then rebuild in or own, artistic, modern image. Getting to Gustodian is a long trip, mainly accessible by car by you can walk, however it would be rude to step in a farmers tilled fields. As you approach the city you can see massive highways made out of what appears to be dull rainbows, depending on the angle you can see different colors for example when you are far away from the city you get a glisten of red on your windscreen, but as you get closer it slowly fade to the color blue. As you look around you when driving up to the city everywhere is untilled fields, almost as if they were abandoned, its like a giant has raked a huge chuck of the earth with an extremely dense rake. You do see the occasional tree here and there but other than dust and stone there is not really much outside the city. When you come up to the city you are approached by th...

Project 2 'What if Metropolis?' Influence Maps 2/11/2015

Influence Map 1 This is my first influence map, this influence map is focused slightly more on the Armilla side of my city design whilst showing some of my inspirations from Victor Moscoso. So Victor's work, I though looked like something if you were high so I figured I should have have some influence from some of the shapes of pipes and general colours you may see when you are high. The peacock actually as a little backstory it, one of the posters Victor has created was a peacock and to me a peacocks colours really sold the colour theme I could be going for, its not been decided yet but I am strongly leaning towards the peacock over the flamingo. They both have very exquisite colour for an animal and would certify stand out in an environment. Also the city is meant to be semi futuristic of just modern, so having everything very clean, finished and professional will play a big part making sure the city is readable and understandable, also having these massive highways the go ev...

Victor Moscoso 28/10/2015

Victor Moscoso Image 1 Website Link http://www.victormoscoso.com/gallery1.htm Image 2 Who is this guy in a nutshell? Victor Moscoso is an Galician American (Oleiros, Galicia, Spain) artist who was born in 1936 and does psychedelic prints. He went to Cooper Union and then the University of Yale. He was inspired by Josef Albers, a teacher at his university and went on to work on comics, rock posters and album covers for musicians. He is still currently doing work, making shirts and other poster but because of his work he has been awarded two Clio Awards, which are awarded for creative excellence in advertising, design and communication. Image 3 Opinions of his work for reference. Victors work is interesting to say the least, he has this exquisite art style which mashes random colors together and really makes his work "Pop" out at you. Not just for the colours he has used but the way he uses them, it almost as if he is some sort of a mix between...
