3rd Year: Arnold Materials, ai'StandardSurface

I've done a post on this before, but I wanted to get all of the preset materials rendered and displayed so that I know how each one looks and work. So I went through all the materials and rendered them out. Overall the standard surface shader is pretty powerful, and with lighting effects such as a HDR dome, you can get some really realistic looking stuff here. 3rd Year: Environment & Lighting Settings

So I'm not going to cover everything in these images, but I will be focusing on some of the presets that you can add to your scene, and then tinker with the settings to get the image you want. Final Sky Result You will find that the render view is very handy for testing out all of these settings, being able to preview all of these settings is an amazing tool, you can tweak to your hearts content until the lighting is perfect. So a key thing is to always use your render view! Final  Foggy Result Final Atmosphere Result

3rd Year: Arnold Toon Shader

So in Maya 2018 the Toon Shader has been removed entirely as well as mental ray, so in order to achieve a Toony effect there are certain traits that can be tinker with in order to create this simulation. Now of course this isnt going be exactly like hitting a matwerial and hitting apply but rather some traits need to be added to a material in the hypershade in oder to modify the materials properties. For this I'm using an ai'StandardSurface, but this can be applied to multiple materials. Keep in mind every time you want this shader you will need to repeat this process and tweak it to your liking, but you can duplicate this set-up and change the colours rather then having to set this shader up over and over again. So in order to make this toon shader you need 3 things, your base material, so in this case "Red",  an Ai'FacingRatio, an AI'Color'Correct and a Ramp Shader. The basic things that need to be tak...
