Maya Test: Substance Materials Test

Material Test Was just messing around with some setting and attributes in Maya, with some substances. This in my opinion looks very nice however the shadow on the ball was a bit glitchy.

This option is however hidden and must be unlocked, once you know the process for doing this though the results are really nice and simple. The way you need to convert these textures to render in Mental Ray can be annoying but it is handy. Also to note is that this exercise has shown me a number of little tricks with the Hypershade so that will come in handy too.

Render 1 Render 2 Render 3 Final Render This exercise I could see being very useful in most videogames, specifically level design. If you were creating some sort of playspace with long corridors you would need a texture that seems larger than it is. Also learning to create a bump and specular map through the Channel Mixed was something I hadn't though of, so I will definitely use these methods again when creating bump and specular maps. Also using a separate layer to alter the bump and specular layers with a color dodge is also a really good idea, quick and effective.
